- W59063253 abstract "Motility disorders that involve the colon are among the most common problems seen by the primary care physician, and lead frequently to an assessment by the abdominal surgeon. Although a diet low in fiber may be a contributing factor in many of these disorders, various abnormalities underlying neurochemical control and motility patterns have been described. To date, our understanding of the pathophysiology of many these conditions is far from complete, with often conflicting findings for the same disease. In some areas, particularly constipation, insight into the underlying disease mechanism has facilitated a more rational approach to evaluation and treatment. It is hoped that as progress is made in the understanding of these disorders, better therapeutic approaches to many of these conditions may become available." @default.
