- W592726906 abstract "The potential of a recirculation concept as integrated in an Air Cushion Vehicle is experimentally evaluated by two dimensional and circular models. The power required for a recirculating Air Cushion Vehicle depends on both the design and operating conditions. In this study these effects were examined quantitatively, and it is found that the minimal values of the power can be achieved by the suitable combination of parameters such as recirculating flow, hoverheight and the geometry of the recirculating air intake. In the optimum condition, the reduction in the power required for air curtain was found to be about 50% in hovering, accordingly the reduction in total power could be about 2025% in cruising The reasons why the performance of a recirculating ACV show an optimum in a certain condition were discussed, based on the flow patterns observed by tufts. The merit of using recirculation become pronounced with increasing cushion area, and a value of more than 150 for the ratio of cushion area to jet exit area is advisable." @default.
