- W596018051 abstract "As the designers of the Los Angeles Metro Red Line Subway System innovative cost saving solutions to design problems are high on our priority list. In the initial operating segment (Segment 1) of the subway interfaces between Facilities Electrical equipment and Communications Systems varied from dry contracts, wetted contracts of DC or AC voltages, and pulse or steady state signals. This created a difficult task in correctly defining to the subsystems contractors what the interfaces would be for compatibility with their equipment designs. This method spawned numerous field changes after equipment installation. For the Segment 2 design phase of the Red Line, Systems and Facilities Electrical jointly developed a method to standardize the Systems/Facilities Electrical interface problem. Facilities electrical developed a design which co-located Motor Controller Cabinets (MCC) within Computer Interface Cabinets (CIC) and provided opto-isolator relays to provide the same type output to Communications whether it be control or indication. Systems developed a standardized Backplane (Printed wiring board) with PLC controlled I/O modules to direct the standardized interfaces from facilities equipment to a PLC. The PLC performs all of the requisite control and indication logic functions provided from local station facility equipment and sends an RS232 data stream to SCADA CRTs at Central Control." @default.
