- W598149600 abstract "The future development of the internal combustion engine is governed by energy- and ecology-related requirements. Precedence is taken by reduction of energy consumption, so that an optimization of engine operation relative to minimal fuel consumption gains in significance. The first route to improve energy conversion in the controlled ignition engine (otto) exists in optimizing the internal construction and operating parameters of the engine. An attempt must be made in the design of new engines, by the choice of construction parameters such as swept volume, number of cylinders, shape of combustion chamber, compression ratio, etc to influence requirements positively in relation to consumption, since these parameters decisively determine the actual character of the engine. By optimizing the internal parameters of the engine the effective efficiency of the controlled-ignition engine (otto) under partially loaded conditions may be improved by from 10 to 40%. Under full loading hardly any further improvement in efficiency is possible by this means for conventional controlled-ignition engines (otto). By the use of exhaust energy, e.g. By connecting to secondary circulation processes, it is possible in situations to close to full loading to improve effective efficiency, by careful design, up to 40%. In the partially-loaded situation the energy content of exhaust gases is low, so that improvement in efficiency is correspondingly lower, the less hard the engine is worked. (TRRL)" @default.
