- W60335940 abstract "Very important progress has been made over the last five years in the understanding of the regulation of the immune response (1), the genetic control of the immunological system (2) and the cellular cooperation of T and B cells for antibody production (3). However, the practical application of this increased understanding remains a major challenge of modern immunology. In attempting to apply the accumulated knowledge concerning cellular cooperation in the immuneresponse, Mitchison has suggested the challenge of antigen sensitized animals with tumors coupled to the sensitizing antigen as a means of improving the anti tumor response. It was assumed that the sensitizing process would stimulate thymus influenced cells which might help tumor recognizing cells to reject the tumor (4). A few investigators have tested this approach and two groups have reported successful results (5,6). Our efforts have been focused on the developing of an immunological helping system with recognition capacity of both the hapten and the carrier of the inducer antigen. On obtaining a reliable and reproducible system, attempts were made to use the hapten recognizing helper cells to improve anti tumor responses to tumor cells coated with the homologous hapten. The materials and the methods which were tested in this work were described in detail in our previous papers (7,8).KeywordsSpleen CellPrimed MouseStimulation IndexAnti Tumor ResponseImmunological MemoryThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
