- W603685917 abstract "Accident research is not regarded only as research into the causes or even as only an evaluation of accidents which have occurred, but is seen as a means of prediction of the dangers, i.e. the study of the forecasting of danger. Hence accident research represents an inter-disciplinary exercise. A known example of direct inter-disciplinary team research are so called depth studies, on-the-spot accident investigations in which medicine, motor-vehicle technology and psychology work hand in hand and with which considerable success is achieved. Also in close-to-practice research are the principles of hypothesis forming and of repeated questioning followed. As an example large scale tests are shown on speed restrictions on trunk roads and motorways. In extreme opposition to the inter-disciplinary scientific treatment of a problem stands the assessment of an individual case from the viewpoint of a single discipline. In this frequently an incorrect interpretation results due to its one-sided nature. In road safety not only is humanitarian behaviour necessary but also behaviour which additionally requires the consideration of the benefits and costs of a measure. Finally points of view are discussed on making road traffic safe and respecting regulations, using seat belts as an example. Discussion between lawyers and experts from other disciplines must be strengthened further in order to spread the results and facts obtained from research especially when forming a judicial conception.
