- W60499091 abstract "1821 Objectives The aim of the present study is to assess the usefulness of F-18 FDG PET/CT after interventional therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods Between March 2007 and November 2010, 32 patients with 46 lesions (25 men, 7 women; mean age, 62.1 ± 10.9) underwent PET/CT within 1 month after interventional therapy for HCC. Patients with history of the previous interventional therapy more than twice or with extended HCC involving whole liver were excluded. Serum alpha-fetoprotein and contrast-enhanced abdominal CT were taken 1 and 3 months after the therapy to evaluate the response. Visual analysis was graded as positive when FDG uptake was observed as eccentric, nodular or infiltrative pattern and as negative in case of hypometabolic or rim uptake. Standardized uptake value (SUV) was used for semiquantitative analysis measured by region of interest technique. Based on clinicoradiologic evidence, patients were divided into the group with residual tumor (Group A) and without residual tumor (Group B). Maximum SUV based on body weight (maxSUVbw), maximum SUV based on lean body mass (maxSUVlbm), and mean SUVlbm (SUL) were assessed. The SUL-to-normal liver ratio (L/N) was calculated. Results Of 46 lesions, 24 lesions were classified as group A and 22 lesions were classified as group B. By visual analysis, the respective values for sensitivity, specificity and accuracy were 100%, 68.2% and 84.8%. By semiquntitative analysis, maxSUVbw, SUL and L/N were significantly higher in group A (p=0.049, 0.016 and 0.027). Sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of SUL were 75%, 59.1% and 67.4%, respectively, with cut-off value of 2.2, and those of L/N were 45.8%, 86.4% and 65.2%, respectively, with cut-off value of 1.7. Conclusions The performance of visual analysis of F-18 FDG PET/CT was better than that of semiquantitative one for the evaluation of treatment response after interventional therapy for HCC. However, its low specificity remains to be solved" @default.
