- W606222991 abstract "The main reason for accidents to children is their inadequate experience (49 percent). In 37 percent of the cases investigated the decisive factor is limited behaviour control. In 14 percent of cases the main cause of accident was the limited understanding by the children of road traffic conditions. The reason why the accident could not be avoided by the driver was: a speed of information supply which was too high (62 percent), too little action (19 percent), excessive detail intake (8 percent), excessive scope of information to absorb (4 percent), other factors (7 percent). Those accidents which are more likely to be avoided are type c/d (child : too little control of behaviour; driver : too little action) and type e (child : too little understanding of traffic; driver : excessive demands on detail intake), which account for approximately 45 percent of all accidents. Accident types a/b are difficult to avoid (child : insufficient experience; driver : speed of information supply which was excessive) which speed of information supply which was excessive) which The average starting speed for accident types c/d is approximately 9 km per hour above that of a/b. Since the average collision speed for c/d is also significantly higher, a greater severity of injury on average is to be expected. /TRRL/" @default.
