- W606872893 abstract "Advances in the field of traffic flow models have recently yielded an important increase in the number of studies aiming to estimate driver behaviors. Such studies determine individual dispersion through optimization methods. They aim to find the best match between simulation results and measured data. However existing methods encompass various potential drawbacks: (i) various traffic states are mixed in measurements, (ii) data corresponding to equilibrium states are difficult to identify, (iii) the wave structure cannot be captured at a single location. This paper proposes a method to appraise heterogeneity in driver behavior in congestion at the scale of bunches of vehicles. To this end, fundamental diagrams (FD) will be estimated. Provided that the FD is linear in congestion, Newell's model furnishes a reliable method. This process overcomes the main drawbacks of existing methods. It studies the propagation of waves through the platoon in congestion situations. Thus, the two parameters of the FD in congestion, the jam density and the congested wave speed, will be estimated for any platoon of vehicles of the NG-Sim datasets.
