Abstract Physical mixtures of Ni/TiO 2 and Pt/TiO 2 catalysts were prepared and their chemisorption and catalytic properties were determined and compared to each of the separate components and to a NiPt/TiO 2 coimpregnated catalyst. Three explanations are proposed for the much higher activity and altered selectivity over Ni/TiO 2 catalysts. Only one of them is consistent with the experimental results — the intrinsic catalytic properties of Ni crystallites are altered by SMSI behavior." @default.
