- W60930645 abstract "Summary Applications in three different fields will be discussed. These include: Direct Current’. Superconducting coils are used in science (general physics, bubble chambers, plasma physics) and in technology (MHD, t hermo-nuclear fusion). Coils made of pure metals, cooled down to liquid helium temperatures, are in some cases competitive for producing high magnetic fields. Low frequency: Transformers, generators, motors, and rectifiers have been made with superconducting wires. The flux-pump is a particular type of generator. Transformers have been suggested, made of pure metal (copper for instance). High Frequency: Superconducting cavities have been used in transmitters and are common with masers. The linear accelerator is another promising device for use of liquid helium. Several switching devices should be added; a typical one is superconducting memories for computers." @default.
