- W60949177 abstract "Although the damaging effects of suspended solids in workover/completion and injection fluids have been reported in the literature, only a few investigators have addressed the benefits of filtration on an experimental basis. From 1981 to 1983, 10 ..mu..m absolute filters were widely used in field completion and workover operations. Recently, a shift to finer filtration of 2 ..mu..m absolute was seen when operators recognized the damaging effects of troublesome ultrafine particles. Ultrafine filtration down to 0.5 ..mu..m absolute is now technologically and economically feasible for completions and workovers. McCune proposed an on site apparatus for testing fluid quality. He recommended an economic trade off between the finest filtration level and an acceptable degree of plugging. Hashemi, et al., developed guidelines for completion fluid quality requirements based on the number of particles equal to or larger than 2 ..mu..m, and emphasized 2 ..mu..m absolute filtration for all completion brines. Matthews, et al., tested different types of filters for North Sea applications and showed the need for filtration even for highly permeable formations. Ershaghi, et al., reported the effects of absolute-rated filters on injectivity improvements for three ranges of permeabilities. This article is an evaluation of core plugging under different degrees ofmore » filtration fineness and quantifies protection improvement by 0.5 ..mu..m absolute filtration. A theoretical model for cased well bore filtration efficiencies is also proposed.« less" @default.
