- W610210586 abstract "The authors suggest that a means of avoiding the difficulties associated with the construction of a sand and gravel frost blanket is the use of full depth asphalt construction which, because of the low heat conductivity of the bituminous layers, reduced the depth of frost penetration. Moreover the heat insulation reduces the stress on the earth formation to a minimum during the critical period of thaw. Thicknesses required in order to achieve a frost resistant structure are discussed.
