- W61380368 abstract "SUMMARY Measurements of cellular transmembrane potentials have been made with glass micro-electrodes from segments of mouse pancreas in vitro. Islet cells had normally a membrane potential of−20 mV compared with−41 mV recorded from the surrounding acinar cells. d -glucose, d -mannose, l -leucine, and tolbutamide sodium caused the appearance of “action potentials” in islet cells; other sugars and glucose analogues tested did not. The electrical activity in islet cells was sensitive to d -glucose concentration; action potential incidence was concentration dependent. Alloxan depolarized mouse islet cells but not acinar cells; it did not affect guinea-pig islet cells. The results are discussed in relation to the possible functional significance of electrical activity in islet cells and the mechanism of stimulus-secretion coupling." @default.
