- W614756465 abstract "The majority of present day energy consumption consists of fossil fuels which lead to a variety of environmental problems making it important to develop alternatives to fossil fuels. Wave power has a great potential to become an energy source with significant implications for future electricity generation. The purpose to this paper is to study the various option possibilities offered by the wave power industry and to deter-mine the technologies which are expected to become dominant within the next 20 years. The wave energy converter converts wave energy into electricity and this energy conversion is known as wave power. There are many different places in the world which are suitable for wave power, particularly in those countries with coast on the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. There are different types if technologies designed to harness the power of waves such as buoys, oscilliating flaps on the seabed and floating devices. This essay is a compilation of web based sources, oral interviews and literature. In order to compare the various technical solutions a number of criteria have been developed and a SWOT-analysis has been performed. It is common to the majority of these technologies that some kind of generator is involved and that there are submarine cables for electricity transmission and anchorage is in the form of gravity foundation or a chain system. The result consists of a comparison of selected technologies, the leading companies within the market and their weaknesses. It is important for energy companies to analyze what they want to accomplish with their investment in wave power and, for some, it is to bet on a technology that provides high power per unit while, for others, it involves small scalable devices with lower power and faster recovery. Based on the SWOT-analysis an investment, preferable for commercial use, could be in relation to a cluster with an appropriate number of units in order to provide the maximum effect." @default.
