- W614947105 abstract "Asphaltic concrete wearing courses, designed by the Marshall method, have been used in Peninsular Malaysia for more than ten years. Recent experiences have shown that, although this type of mix performs satisfactorily under fast moving commercial traffic, it can deform rapidly on climbing lanes and at intersections where such vehicles are moving at slower speeds. This paper describes the comparative performance of an asphaltic concrete wearing course to that of similar material modified with the copolymers of ethylene vinyl acetate and ethylene methacrylate. This trial was constructed on a climbing lane which had a gradient of eight percent and carried heavy commercial vehicles travelling at an average speed of 15 km/h. The paper concludes that one of the polymers tested could be cost effective in preventing the premature deformation of asphaltic concrete surfacings subjected to similar loading regimes.
