- W618576586 abstract "Density fluctuations and perturbative structures are thought to be responsible for the transport of energy in plasmas. Radial correlation reflectometry (RCR) is a diagnostic used in magnetic con nement plasmas to obtain information about the density uctuations present in the plasma. Most of the times its results are difficult to interpret due to the different phenomena that are present in plasma discharges whose effects are not well known, e.g. magnetic islands and zonal flows. The theory for this diagnostic has been recently developed and the diagnostic has not been widely implemented. Therefore a simulation of the diagnostic plays an important role in understanding the effects of the different phenomena present in plasma, since it is possible to isolate the effects. In this work a full wave code is developed to study the effects of differerent phenomena on the RCR results, i.e. radial correlation length. In particular random uctuations along the plasma, MHD modes corresponding to the presence of magnetic islands (modes q = 1 and q = 2) and geodsic acoustic modes (GAMs) are studied. A signature is found for the case of the MHD activity. In the case of the GAMs, it has been found that due to its radial motion a decorrelation is provoked, giving no visible signature as a result. Two diff-erent density pro les are considered: linear and experimental (from a Tore Supra shot); and various density uctuation pro les with different radial wavenumber spectra are also studied. To conclude, some recommendations for better measurement of the correlation lengths and detection of possible MHD activiy are given." @default.
