- W61908577 abstract "Comparative immunologists, especially those working with anuran amphibians, as animal models for immunogenesis have several unique advantages. First, anurans occupy a special position in the evolution of vertebrates. Second, since The re-discovery of the lymphomyeloid system there has been sustained interest in the immune system, with efforts focused on differential functions of the thymus, spleen, lymph gland of larvae and the bone marrow and accessory LM organs such as the jugular body of adults. We have important clues as to the dissociation of T and B lymphocyte function especially in the thymus and lymph gland. To enliven this should of immunologic phylogeny, and to ensure continuity, we chould be more concerned about how anuran immune systems function in relation to influences such as hibernation, light, hormones and seasons with the view toward understanding how the immune system is affected by the nervous and and endocrine systems. Finally, in relation to certain autoimmune diseases such as myasthenia gravis and to understand senescence, frogs and toads are valuable. Our animals should be able to usher us into a new era when comparative and developmental immunobiology will hook the immune system to the rest of the body's systems." @default.
