- W619986008 abstract "In order to recognize and assess dangerous points, missing pedestrian links and other problematic places a comprehensive Hungarian traffic safety campaign started in spring 2012. Therefore a sample area was selected in XI. District (Ujbuda) of Budapest, where almost every problem can be analysed. The main activities were concentrated in the official website, where an interactive map helped everyone to indicate points of traffic safety problems (e.g. missing or worn pedestrian crossing, dangerous road section, conflict point between cyclists and pedestrians). This kind of innovative data collection technique was new in Hungary, where people can share their notions easily about traffic safety problems. The aim of this paper is to analyse the coherence between accident statistics and indicated points (during the campaign). Coincidences, differences and reasons were thoroughly analysed to draw conclusions and formulate recommendations for further studies. The main findings of the above presented assessment are the following: Road users can roughly feel where problematic or dangerous locations are, what the problem is and how serious it is, but there are also hidden dangers. Innovative data collection techniques could significantly help transport planners to understand traffic safety better and accessibility issues especially among pedestrians. Data collected with innovative methods could support decision-making process concerning safety measures but opinion of older people might be under-, while younger people might be overrepresented in ICT-based samples. However, there are difficulties during the analysis if the data collection was designed inappropriately since it might need a serious amount of time for manual processing and the collected data on claims might not be suitable to determine the weight of the problem.
