- W62209353 abstract "This chapter discusses the patterns of association stemming from the behavior of man versus that of beast. Assemblage composition is an attempt to equate artifact fossils, cultural stages, and geological horizons as narrowly as possible into mechanical systems whose parts articulated with almost robotic precision. The composition of assemblages in terms of species frequencies is most commonly interpreted as a reflection of environmental composition. Much of the current work in taphonomy is concerned with the degree to which paleontological assemblages, even assemblages referable to the actions of a single species, are representative of the frequencies of species in the surrounding habitat. The search for typical or ontologically characteristic assemblages when there little understands of what conditions their form, other than a vague suspicion that intrinsic properties of the agent are responsible, is just a slightly modified version of the traditional archaeological assumption that variability is preferable to differences in persons or agents producing the assemblages. Assemblage differences are referred to ethno cultural differences among men." @default.
