- W62451503 abstract "A central role in the understanding of the fundamental, and rather peculiar, properties of conducting polymers has been played by very simple, yet very elegant, one-electron theories, like SSH [1]. However, in recent years, several features have been experimentally observed, which cannot be rationalized in terms of one-electron theories, unambiguously pointing towards the need of including electron-electron (e-e) interactions in complete models for conducting polymers [2]. Hubbard models, which explicitly account for e-e interactions, are widely and successfully applied to investigate the properties of quasi one-dimensional (1D) charge-transfer (CT) salts [3], but they cannot be transferred to polymers without due modification. In fact, conducting polymers have larger bandwidths than CT salts. Moreover, the range of the interelectronic potential may be very different in the two kinds of systems, due to the different screening properties of the materials [4]. In the next Section we briefly discuss how e-e interactions can be modeled for 1D systems with different bandwidth and screening properties. Then we focus on half-filled systems, and investigate their instabilities in terms of the proposed models." @default.
