THE FIRST CONSISTED IN ENCOURAGING THE USE OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT WITH THE AIM OF OBVIATING TRAFFIC HOLD-UPS IN THE CITY. IN OCTOBER 1972, THE TRANSPORT AUTHORITY HAD ALREADY ACHIEVED AN IMPORTANT SERIES OF IMPROVEMENTS IN THE QUALITY OF SERVICE INVOLVING THE RENEWAL OF THE TRANSPORT FLEET, THE INSTALLATION OF RADIO TELEPHONES, NEW SHELTERS AT STOPPING POINTS. THE NUMBER OF BUSES TRAVELLING ON SPECIAL LANES HAD ALREADY INCREASED AND HAD A FAVOURABLE INFLUENCE ON THE QUALITY OF SERVICE. THE CAMPAIGN OF INFORMATION AND PERSUASION, PLACED THE ACCENT ON THE IMPROVEMENT ACHIEVED AND ENCOURAGED THE USE OF THE AUTHORITY'S SERVICES. THE CAMPAIGN OF OCTOBER 1973 WAS CONCERNED PARTICULARLY WITH INFORMATION AND ITS AIM WAS TO MAKE THE PUBLIC AWARE OF THE NETWORK OF BUS ROUTES OPERATED BY THE AUTHORITY. AS A CHECK ON THE RESULTS, THE AUTHORITY HAS FOLLOWED THE EVOLUTION OF 23 ROUTES WHICH, SINCE JANUARY 1971, HAVE NOT REFLECTED A LARGE CHANGE IN JOURNEYS, NOR USED BUSES ON RESERVED LANES TO ANY GREAT EXTENT, NOR HAD AN EXCEPTIONAL RENEWAL OF VEHICLES. IN SPITE OF THIS IT IS CLEAR THAT THESE ROUTES HAVE EXPERIENCED GENERAL IMPROVEMENTS AND THAT THE EVOLUTION OF THE VOLUME OF PASSENGERS TRANSPORTED IS NOT A MATHEMATICAL REFLECTION OF THE IMPACT OF THE CAMPAIGNS, BUT THEIR INFLUENCE HAS BEEN STRONG. THE PERCENTAGE INCREASE OR DECREASE IN THE VOLUME OF PASSENGERS TRANSPORTED EACH MONTH ON THESE 23 ROUTES IS COMPARED TO THE SAME MONTH FOR THE PREVIOUS YEAR." @default.
