- W626021907 abstract "The Sub-committee on Transportation of the National Council for the Welfare of Disabled Persons developed the program package on Trainers training on Assisting the Disabled and Elderly People Who Travel (ADEPT) to offer easy-to-follow, practical and appropriate ways of assisting the disabled and elderly people who travel. The training is designed primarily for personnel of air, land and sea transportation agencies who come into direct contact with passengers who have physical, visual, hearing impairments and those with general learning disabilities. It aims to help the various transportation personnel to be confident and comfortable in assisting travellers with disabilities. The ultimate goal of ADEPT is to enhance the mobility of persons with disabilities and the elderly to make their travel comfortable, safe and trouble-free. It has been almost two (2) years since the ADEPT program started and so much work yet remains to be done. This approach will hopefully improve attitudes and behaviour of the target personnel towards them. The development and progress of this program will clearly demonstrate the cooperation and involvement of people in the transport sector relative to concerns of the elderly and persons with disabilities leading to a barrier-free transportation environment in the Philippines." @default.
