- W626201704 abstract "European statistics suggest a decline in use of private vehicles has started. To what extent is this a function of European transport policy and restraint? Autolatry means idolising the car, much as autocracy could mean conferring all the power on one mode. Analysis of European transport statistics shows a decline in passenger-km per private vehicle in Spain, Germany, Norway, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, gb and Netherlands (ranked according to the strength of the decline), and an absolute decline in passenger-km for private vehicles in Denmark, with stagnation in Spain and the Netherlands. Germany has introduced a wide range of traffic restraint measures which curb car use in certain designated areas. To what extent are these trends a function of transport policy and traffic restraint, and to what extent do they reflect a growing awareness of the net disbenefits of the car?(a) for the covering abstract of the seminar see IRRD 816535." @default.
