- W626847440 abstract "Census evidence suggests that travel to work patterns have developed with little consideration for the energy implications. This paper describes an investigation into the travel to work patterns for England and Wales as revealed in the census of population. This investigation has concentrated particularly on the travel patterns for the two transport modes which do not consume non-renewable energy, namely walking and cycling. The patterns of travel that have emerged from the study reveal that there are a number of factors which influence the levels of use of these two modes. This evidence clearly shows that the land use/transport system has been allowed to develop with little consideration being paid to the consumption of resources within the system. The evidence indicates some policy areas were policies, to make a less profligate use of resources, might be developed. Some suggestions are made as to how such alternative/radical policies might be developed given the existing patterns of transport use.(a) for the covering abstract of the seminar see IRRD 816535." @default.
