- W630565000 abstract "The authors use an algorithm based on the convergence of a trial and error method to investigate the possible lifting of a 3.7 m x 5 m slab under traffic loading. Lifting can occur because only comprehensive stresses may be sustained at the slab-subgrade interface. A total load of 30 tonne and a 10 tonne axle load has been assumed, and three typical values for the modulus of subgrade reaction, (k), have been used. Three different cases of loading have been used: corner load, edge load and centre load. Stresses and slab deformation are defined and illustrated in a series of diagrams. Little difference was found in maximum stress and deformations for unilateral and bilateral contact. Lifting only appears for corner loading for a 10 tonne load becoming more severe for thin slabs and greater k values. A load of 30 tonnes causes lifting under all conditions increasing for soils with lower k values. There is a possibility of fatigue cracks near dowel bars where positive and negative stresses alternate. (TRRL)" @default.
