- W632290511 abstract "The purpose of this report has been to show how traffic generation varies between different companies in the Stockholm region; and how it varies with geographical location and type of occupation. The result is based on 1024 written answers from employees and visitors to the companies. It's also based on automatic counting of traffic flows during three days at each of the six companies. The surveys have been executed during the period of October to November 1987 and January 1988. During October-November 1987 the weather was very mild which contributed to compatible results. The traffic generation from the different companies varies between 2.2 and 4.6 travels per employee and day. The most important factor regarding traffic generation seems to be the type of occupation and the geographical location of the company. A significant result is that companies with a large part of office-employees have a higher number of traffic generation than production companies with mostly blue-collar workers. The investigation also showed that companies situated near Stockholm have fewer vehicle movements. Definition of travel in this investigation has been regarded as a transfer from a point of departure outside the working area to the working area. In other words travelling from the area is not included in this study. About 80 % of the total journeys starts from the home address. The number of lunch journeys increase when the company is located in the city or in the outskirts of the city. Different ways to get to the working area have been examined in three different groups. These are car, public transport and walking (which includes bicycle and moped). Companies outside Stockholm have the largest number of car-trips; with decreasing distance to the city the proportion of car travellers decreases and the share for public transport and walking increases. Car travel decreases by about 20 % when the company is situated close to the city and the public transport is good. 40 % of the travellers with public transport and walkers had no car accessible. The major part of this group was women. Companies with a great number of official cars produce a high traffic generation. The number of official cars varies between 38 employees/car to 1 employee/car. There is a larger number of visitors at the commercial companies than the other companies. A similarity between the companies regarding point of departure was shown. Most of the employees have a point of departure near the working place. There is no difference between travellers with car, public transport or walkers regarding point of departure. Areas with bad public transport and a long distance from home-address have a larger percentage of car-trips." @default.
