- W636126670 abstract "Sexual propagation of caper (Capparis spinosa L.) shows presents remarkable difficulties, with low germination percentages; it is the most used method. In the research group where this studies, some studies were taken to improve both sexual and asexual propagation of this plant. In order to improve the caper sexual propagation, three experiments were carried out in this study. First, an experiment was done to determine the influence of the period from harvest to the beginning of the germination test, studying four different periods (45, 30, 15 and 0 days). Secondly, an experiment was done to determine the influence of the HeNe laser radiation on seed germination and growth of the radicle and hypocotyl. For the laser irradiation treatment, five irradiation times (0, 10, 30, 60 and 120 s) were tested. Germination test with irradiated seed were performed. Then we proceeded to the study of elongation of the radicle and hypocotyl of seedlings corresponding to sprouts. Finally, a propagation experiment was carried out, analyzing the germination obtained from whole fruits and freshly extracted from the fruit seeds, both in open and still closed fruits, in a peat-based substrate. The results show that the germination percentage is very high when seeding is realized immediately after the ripeness and gibberellic acid is added to the substrate. As for the laser irradiation treatment, there has not appeared to have a clear effect, finding in all treatments lower germination percentages, compared to the control treatment. Finally, when the fruits are open the germination percentage reaches similar values, regardless of whether whole fruit or seed were sown, which could facilitate the sexual propagation." @default.
