- W637377123 abstract "We can characterize this work as a reference publication of the field of fashion not only for Vienna but for the whole 1915-1938 time period. It starts with the concept, difficult to clear up in the German language, of fashion and with mention of thinkers who dared deal with it. In this chapter are brought up the various factors that bring about events that caused fashion to change; after that historical sources before 1815 are treated; these are to be tied to the kinds of development of the various tendencies which led to changes in fashion in the 19th century. This historical display is supported by many illustrations and reproduces the origins of art nouveau and the Viennese workshops. The author details the fabrication of clothing in the fashion salons and their advertising methods, reproduced with numerous illustrations. She documents the customers among which the aristocracy, rich bourgeois and actresses were most prominent, and who, by their choices, determined the course of a particular fashion trend. At the same time attention was also paid to the influence of folk costume on fashion which is considerable in Austria, where during certain periods folk costume influenced fashion wear and where the reverse trend has been noted at times.
