- W637410922 abstract "The society of today is getting aware of all the emissions that damage the environment when energy is used. That’s why efficient ways to use our energy becomes more important every day so that we can prevent the greenhouse effect from destroying our climate. This thesis deals with indoor climate systems in shopping malls. An analysis of three different cooling systems has been made with energy simulations with IDA Indoor Climate & Energy. The three systems consist of: System 1: Liquid based system with active chilling beams and constant air volume flow System 2: Liquid based system with passive chilling beams and variable air volume flow System 3: All air systems with variable volume flow These systems are then provided with cooling from either a conventional chiller or district cooling of different types. The results show that system 1 uses less energy than the other two (51 kWh/m2), but all systems are close to each other. Environmentally it shows that district cooling is to be preferred to a chiller if it is produced by an energy source of low exergy level. This is a fact both concerning the use of primary energy and the CO2 emissions. A sensitivity analysis shows that the best possibility to make energy usage more efficient in shopping malls is to exchange ordinary lighting with low energy lighting bulbs. An LCC analysis has been made which shows that System 1 has the lowest total life cycle cost of the three systems studied but one shall remember that only small changes in the input data can provide a different result." @default.
