- W63908033 abstract "Annealing of metallic glasses allows structural relaxation, which has a strong effect on the viscosity and on the ductility of some of them. Viscosity increases due to relaxation, both below and near the glass transition temperature, can be described best by a bimolecular annihilation mechanism. When measuring the equilibrium viscosity, it is important to ascertain that the relaxation is complete and that the asymptotic values of both increasing and decreasing viscosity measurements coincide. The equilibrium viscosity of metallic glasses can best be described by the Fulcher-Vogel equation, even at the lowest temperatures where measurements have been made. The isoconfigurational viscosity behavior near the glass transition temperature is non-Arrhenian, and depends on the degree of relaxation. The ductile-to-brittle transition temperature of a metallic glass exhibits a continuous increase with annealing that can be related to other structural relaxation phenomena, in particular the viscosity increase. Other models for embrittlement, based on crystallization, phase separation or interfacial segregation, are reviewed as well." @default.
