- W641062689 abstract "The flexochape asphalt rubber binders started in France at the beginning of 1980 resulting in a rational study jointly led with mont-saint-aignan esso laboratory. The optimized elaboration of rubber powder coming from worn out crushed tyres, the choice of a compatibilising agent and bitumen selection give the binder rheological properties particularly remarkable and steady in time. The first flexochape used in laying an uncracked chipped membrane (more than 1200000 m2 within two years) has widely shown qualities of this modified binder. Therefore it was logical to spread out this product use to bituminous mixes especially to those which had been experimented without success because of a lack of a really performing binder; porous bituminous mixes are a great deal more reliable for users in wet weather and thin maintenance open-graded mixes (2 to 3 cm) with high roughness and high deformation. Laboratory studies show the advantages brought by flexochape binders for these types of bituminous mixes; the important gauging due to the high binder viscosity gives a thicker film around aggregates and endows bituminous mix with: -a better water resistance -a better fatigue resistance -a better ageing resistance. More over the binder low thermic susceptibility and just as high softening point allow these bituminous mixes to show a good rutting resistance. Heavy traffic motorways experimentations must confirm the results validity obtained at the laboratory. After the particularly cold 1984-85 winter, we note a satisfying behaviour of these sections.(a) for the covering abstract of the symposium see IRRD 815173." @default.
