- W64207750 abstract "The technology for “seeing” with sound has an important and interesting history. Certain of nature’s creatures have been good at acoustic imaging for many millenia. Bats and dolphins are prodigies in using sound waves for probing their universe. The human species, lacking sophisticated natural ability, has overcome this deficiency by developing appropriate technology. Rudimentary cross-sectional acoustic images have been available since prior to World War I, stemming from the development of pulse-echo techniques. More recently intensity-mapping and phase-amplitude systems have become the bases for acoustic imaging. This talk presents some historical highlights of the fascinating progress in this work." @default.
