- W644264908 abstract "This short article describes the construction of the bridge pier foundations for bridges built across the Volga river at Astrakhan and the Buzan river. Both rivers contain swift currents (up to 2.5 m/sec) and are intensively used for navigation. The navigation channels are up to 28m in depth. The geology of the area has shown that the piers will be founded on a substantial layer of powdered sand followed, at a depth of up to 30m below the surface, of a thick layer of hard and semi hard clay. Modern technology has made it possible to construct and drill foundation columns of up to 2m in diameter, broadening to 3.5m at the bottom. The foundation column construction began with the insertion of 1720 or 2020 mm steel pipes down into the clay sublayer. After removal of sand from these pipes, either KATO 30TH or KATO 50TH was used to drill 1500 or 1700 mm diameter wells within these pipes. UHWC universal reamers or reamers from the Icato TH-50 machine set were used to hollow out the broad bases of the foundation. Reinforcing cages were lowered into the wells and the wells were filled with concrete. The French title for this article is: Fondations des piles de ponts sur la Volga et la Bouzan. The German title for this article is: Gruendung der Strompfeiler von Bruecken ueber die Wolga und den Bouzan. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 851274." @default.
