- W645155332 abstract "In today's times of tight budges, limited rights of way, community opposition and increased vehicle-miles traveled, public agencies are trying to find lower-cost and less obstructive alternatives to a grade-separation interchange, in order to alleviate intersections experiencing traffic volumes over their design capacity. Also known as a continuous-flow intersection (CFI), the displaced left-turn (DLT) design is one option being increasingly used. (Another term for it is a crossover displaced left-turn intersection (XDL). Construction for the DLT costs about 80-90% less than a grade-separated interchange and provides approximately 75% of the capacity improvements. This article aims to assist public agencies in deciding whether this design is the best fit for their intersections by showing how it works and in what situations it is the most successful. Case studies from four projects undertaken by the Georgia Department of Transportation are presented." @default.
