- W645351232 abstract "A comprehensive review of structural flexibility models for railway wheel-sets is presented in this pilot study. The wheel-set structural flexibility can have a major influence on the vehicle-track dynamic interaction. It leads to fluctuations in the wheel-rail forces, affects derailment risk, ride stability and ride comfort and plays a role in the growth of out-of-roundness of wheels, corrugation of track and propagation of noise. Evaluation of the wheel-set structural flexibility and its effects requires laboratory testing and measurements on track as well. Design guides for testing running behaviour of railway vehicles were developed and adopted to set the requirements for such tests. Such measurements are reviewed too. Numerical modelling of structural flexibility of wheel-sets has been studied. The following methods are included in this report: Continuous models, finite element models, lumped models and eigenmodes. In this report the effects of wheel-set flexibility are presented and classified according to the modelling methods, frequency range and type of application. Topics related to simulation and modelling of wheel-set flexibility such as equations of motion, boundary conditions and reduction methods are discussed. (A)" @default.
