- W648464982 abstract "Current full-interaction fatigue design techniques for composite steel-concrete bridge beams are both safe and simple as the reduction in the longitudinal shear flow, and the frictional force along the steel-concrete interface are not considered. However, in the assessment of composite bridges, more accurate assessment techniques are required to determine whether the original fatigue life may be safely extended. Three simple techniques, in addition to the common full-interaction approach, have recently been developed to assist in the assessment of the remaining strength and endurance of existing composite bridge beams. One technique is based on the full-interaction approach and allows for interfacial friction. The other two techniques have been derived using linear-elastic partial-interaction theory, one of which allows for interfacial friction. Each technique has varying degrees of complexity and conservatism and their use is described by way of an illustrative example.
