- W648614906 abstract "The Botany-West Transport Study was a strategic review of total transport needs in that part of Sydney bounded by Botany Bay, Alexandria and Beverly Hills. Because of the sensitivity of the questions raised, it was conducted with full community participation from the conception of the program, through the drafting of briefs and management of consultants, to the completion of the study. Relevant Government Authorities were also involved through a project team. This innovative process was based on a concensus approach, with mutual education and learning being an integral part of the work. The RTA also broadened its brief to consider rail as well as road projects, thereby presenting a comprehensive approach to transport planning in this important industrial part of Sydney. The study represents the most advanced stage of public participation undergone in the State. It has presented RTA with a range of questions and issues raised by the community which are clearly of relevance to most major urban road projects, and some of which are of fundamental importance in the planning of all urban infrastructure over the next several decades. This paper describes the process used in the study, and then considers these major issues. (A) For the covering entry of this conference, see IRRD abstract no. 843369." @default.
