- W648635182 abstract "The objective of this research is the investigation of traffic congestion and traffic management effects on congestion relief on the Bosphorus Bridge of Istanbul O-1 expressway along the westbound direction at Beylerbeyi, Altunizade, Acibadem and Goztepe on-ramps. Initially, the location and attributes of bottlenecks along the studied corridor are investigated. The traffic simulation network is modeled in a traffic micro simulation environment and the calibration of traffic model is performed in order to have a significant representation of the real world. As for traffic control strategies, fixed-time ramp metering, speed limit control and integrated control are tested and compared with the actual condition of traffic along the stretch to observe the studied network`s performance. The results indicate that there is an optimal cycle length for fixed time ramp metering and the best performance achieved at 15sec. The speed limits are tested varying the speeds from 60kph to 100kph with 10kph increments. Maximum performance is achieved at the speed of 70kph. The combined ramp metering and speed limit control is also examined and 15sec cycle time fixed-time ramp metering with 60 to 70kph range speed limit control performs better in many measures." @default.
