- W649291872 abstract "The needs of the are often overlooked, and a and Operational Audit can be used both on new scheme designs and in existing areas with high usage by a variety of travel modes. Transportation professionals are familiar with the principles of Road Safety Audits with the intention of creating safer designs from the outset, but Traffic Operations personnel are frequently faced with complaints about existing infrastructure. This infrastructure was designed using an entirely different set of standards than we would use today, and was not always geared towards the impaired. The intention of the paper is to define mobility impaired and explore some of the options available to address these needs. The and Operational Audit can be applied to new scheme designs, and also as a retrospective Mobility Action Plan. The objective would be to identify areas of high pedestrian usage, define the boundaries of a study area and then explore ways of improving the built environment to accommodate the needs of people with impairments. Examples of the areas that could be examined for remedial action are; transit interchanges, shopping streets and malls, parks and libraries. Some of the issues that could be investigated include pedestrian desire lines, location of street furniture, hard and soft landscaping, and tactile and audible devices. It is proposed to produce a draft Mobility Action Plan for the City of Calgary to initiate a proactive approach to this sometimes sensitive subject." @default.
