- W651362410 abstract "LEWIS AND WRISLEY have presented a new experimental method of exciting pure natural modes of complex structures, such as airplanes, by a system of many shakers. This method is based on the obviously experimentally stated fact, that for the excitation of a pure natural mode, all the exciting forces must be in phase and all the force amplitudes must be proportional to the product of the amplitude of that natural mode and the mass distribution, in formula, F/(z-m), independent of individual shaker. Lewis and Wrisley at tempt to explain this fact by aid of structural damping. Considering the great value of the method of Lewis and Wrisley, which permits a very quick adjustment of pure natural modes, an exact proof of the above fact is desirable. In the following, such a proof is given for a nearly plane wing on the basis of the theory of integral equations with symmetrical kernel. or by integration over the wing surface" @default.
