- W651487642 abstract "The Netherlands play a lead role in the world with respect to dynamic traffic management. Global changes on social demographic, economic and technology fields entail that traffic management in the Netherlands will have to meet different and stricter demands in the coming twenty years. Technological developments, primarily in the field of intelligent transportation system (ITS), offer major opportunities to ensure traffic management is used even more effectively and on a wider scale. The paper discusses the development strategy which Rijkswaterstaat has compiled to adequately prepare itself for the traffic management of the ‘future’ and to respond consistently to all developments, questions and initiatives that play a role in this area. The development strategy describes the future traffic management scenario in 2030 and identifies the transitions required in the field of organization, processes, technology and information and their mutual cohesion. In essence, the future scenario entails that road users will themselves ensure an optimal use of the network. Traffic management facilitates this individual autonomy by providing individually tailored information and advice. Traffic management moreover actively intervenes to minimize the disadvantageous effects of autonomy. Thanks to this holistic development strategy, governments and market parties can optimally co-operate to get people smarter on the way." @default.
