- W655028854 abstract "Fatigue tests have been performed by rotating bending fatigue testing machine on high manganese non-magnetic austenitic (HM) steel (0.2%C) specimens and the results compared with that of the representative austenitic stainless steel SUS304 using the successive-taken replica method. It is clarified that the fatigue strength of HM steel and SUS304 shows comparatively the same result, that is, the same fatigue limit and distinct knee point. In addition, some non-propagating micro-cracks are observed in the specimen's surface of HM steel subjected to the stress of fatigue limit by 10 to the 7th power cycles, while no micro-cracks exist in the specimen of SUS304 subjected to the same stress condition. Following the above tests, the authors have accomplished the same kinds of fatigue tests to investigate the effect of carbon content on the existence of non-propagating micro-cracks in austenitic steels using four kinds of HM steels with changing and decreasing the carbon content between 0.025% to 0.100%. It is clarified that the non-propagating micro-cracks are not observed in the four kinds of HM steels under the stress of each fatigue limit by 10 to the 7th power cycles. From this fact, the limit of the existence of non-propagating micro-cracks is concluded to be between 0.1% to 0.2% of carbon content, and the characteristics for crack initiation under the above stress conditions are found to be predominantly influenced by carbon content." @default.
