- W658156882 abstract "After a brief survey of checks on interior safety carried out as part of the periodic inspection of vehicles in the Federal Republic of Germany, the results of various studies undertaken by the Institute for Safety Research, Tuev Rhineland, are presented. It was shown that defects may occur in safety belts, seats and headrests because of wear, inefficient handling and accident damage, and that these defects may affect the protection given to the occupant. It was also shown that there is still no definite information on the effects of a defect on safety and the frequency of its occurrence. The research needed on this must be orientated towards the following: stress and damage to belts during the life of vehicles; damage to inertia reel mechanisms and associated test procedures; relation between seat wear and upholstery and efficiency of the restraint system; quantitative significance of defects in the restraint system for safety. Brief details are given of the consequences for periodic inspection and the development of procedures for testing internal safety in new vehicles. (TRRL)" @default.
