- W658867036 abstract "Concrete built above ground level and in contact with the air carbonates fairly rapidly. The rate of carbonation varies with a number of factors. This carbonation results in a slow modification in the structure of the material and its behavior. Carbonation can have a deleterious influence such as reduction in the protection of steel reinforcement in reinforced and prestressed concrete or a beneficial effect such as an increase in the resistance aggressive water or in mechanical strength. It is even possible to accelerate the phenomenon and artificial carbonation is sometimes used for some concrete members. Very little is known of this phenomenon which can lead to errors of interpretation as to the cause of the structural damage or durability of concrete. the object of this article is to describe the state of the art of the question and to study the factors influencing carbonation." @default.
