- W68716172 abstract "This research investigates the static chord modulus of elasticity of high strength concrete in uniform compression and flexure. Variables of curing regime, concrete strength, aggregate type and percentage of reinforcement have been considered. The uniform compression test specimens consisted of standard 150 mm diameter by 300 mm long cylinders. A complete range of curing regimes was investigated. The regimes consisted of ambient curing, standard moist curing and steam curing. Two design strengths of 35 mpa and 50 mpa were considered. Reinforcement of (0 to 2.5 Per cent) was used in the uniform compression tests and was chosen to reflect the typical range of prestressed and non prestressed reinforcement in existing structures. The modulus in flexure was determined by loading a column specimen in uniform compression and then applying a moment such that the minimum extreme fibre strain was zero. Proceeding in this manner for varying axial load and moment the maximum extreme fibre stress was plotted with respect to the maximum extreme fibre strain. Two column specimens were cast with a design strength of 50 mpa and together with companion cylinders were moist cured for seven days. If the NAASRA bridge design code is used to predict the experimental moduli values of this research then the order of accuracy is (-15 per cent to +25 per cent). However, the error range is based on known concrete strengths and would be larger where this data was estimated. At an age of concrete of 28 days or older the flexural modulus is from (0 to 10 per cent) greater than the uniform compression modulus." @default.
