- W69456091 abstract "Produced alkyd resins are widely used in paint and coatings industry. Alkyd resin is made by reacting thepolyhydric alcohol, monobasic fatty acids and polybasic acids. The purpose of this research is to determine thedegree of polymerization based on the difference in temperature of alcoholysis.Alkyd resin is produced in two-stage processes. The first stage is alcoholysis reaction of corn oil withglycerol in batch reactor at temperature of 220oC-260oC with the equivalent ratio [OH/COOH] = 1.5 for 3hours. After that, the temperature is lowered to 140oC. The second stage is esterification reaction, between thefirst stage product and maleic anhydride. The temperature of esterification is 160oC, 180oC and 200oC. Samplesare taken every 15 minutes for total of 75 minutes, and is analyzed OH content using the method of uncatalyzedacetic anhydride.Based on the research result, degree of polymerization is linear to the temperature of alcoholysis.
