• W69708825 abstract "ABSTRACT The action of adrenergic compounds was studied on bulbar areas which contained adrenergic neurones and are implicated in cardiovascular as well as respiratory functions. Microinjection of adrenergic compounds into these areas produces simultaneously a slowing down of the respiratory frequency and a decrease of blood pressure. In preparations in which both vagus and depressor aortic nerves as well as the spinal cord in C7-T1 were sectioned, modification of respiratory frequency occurred without modification of blood pressure. It results from microinjection study that both functions are depressed by these agents, even if each function is tested independantly. Iontophoretic application of noradrenaline, adrenaline, clonidine, isoproterenol on single neurones located in these bulbar areas demonstrated the presence of adrenergic receptors on respiratory as well as non respiratory somatas. Depression of the neuronal discharge was obtained in 60 % of the cases and reproduced on a given cell with different adrenergic agonists. In addition to its inhibitory effect clonidine was found to potentiate the depressing adrenergic effect. These results are discussed in relation to other substances which have been located by histochemistry in the same areas and which in some cases such as opioid peptides have been tested in the course of our studies." @default.
