- W69785938 abstract "Risk is a difficult concept for most care-giving settings and can be understood in epidemiologic/statistical terms only when comparability with well-studied groups is considered formally. Like so many other elements, the many gray zones, known and unknown, may be reduced to a simplistic, dichotomous consideration of risk or no risk. Unfortunately, in the case of breast cancer there is no way to identify a group of women at any certain degree of reduced risk from that identified in the general population. The title of this article includes the term high risk, thus, our first challenge is to establish some practical definition of high risk for breast cancer as opposed to lesser levels. The relevance of these groups with regard to patient management and counseling is presented. First, familial and genetic-based risk of breast cancer is covered in the first article of this issue. We limit our discussion of that subject to the interactions between anatomic risk indicators and family history of breast cancer." @default.
