- W69811503 abstract "Rural women are not a homogenous group. Environmental health hazards are different according to the diversity in geography, economic base, demographics, and development. Lack of safe water and proper sanitation has serious health impacts on rural women, such as outbreaks of infections, and exposure to the hazards of polluted water with fertilizers, pesticides, and so forth. Wide-scale application of pesticides has potential serious threats to women, in the form of hematopoietic, nephrotoxic, hepatotoxic, and reproductive disorders and cancers. Additionally, prolonged domestic exposure to biomass smoke is a significant cause of health problems, such as chronic lung disease and lung cancer. Moreover, women in agriculture, like many other rural workers, have a high incidence of injuries and diseases, such as parasitic, zoonotic, and vector-borne diseases, and are insufficiently reached by health services. However, stressful life events that are related to rural environments have been linked to feelings of depression and worthlessness for many rural women. Rural areas need an emphasis on risks of undernutrition and prevention of infection, as well as safety of both reproductive and occupational health for women. Indeed, women are the key to promoting the underlying social change in any motivating program, not only in environmental practice but also in moral development." @default.
